Former cyclist Georg Preidler has received a 12-month suspended sentence and a 2880 euros fine for sports fraud.

The Innsbruck Regional Court has announced that the Austrian former cyclist was found guilty of using blood doping between March 2017 and March 2019, of using growth hormones and causing the loss of 286.000 euros in sponsorship and other income, the Austrian public television ORF revealed.

Preidler was part of teams like Groupama-FD and Team Sunweb and was accused of having defrauded his formations, the sponsors and race organisers. The financial damage caused by the rider was estimated of 286.000 euros.

The rider issued a 15-page confession in which he admitted the use of doping with the help of a German doctor from 2018, but denied any prior use. But during the trial, a Croatian doctor said that he had delivered him syringes and growth hormones before 2018 and that he made clear that those were doping substances.
