A doctor of the Tour of Poland has stated that the life of Deceunink-Quick-Step's rider Fabio Jakobsen is in danger after the heavy crash he suffered at the end of the first stage of the Tour de Pologne.

The first day of competition in the Polish race was suitable for the sprinters, a downhill stretch in which they could reach maximum speed. The stage came up to a fight between Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma) and Fabio Jakobsen and the latter ended up crashing heavily against the fences at the finish line.

"His condition is very bad," said Barbara Jerschina, doctor of the Tour de Pologne. "We are dealing with a serious cranioencephalic traumatism. His heart is working well, but he's fighting for his life. Let's cross our fingers for him. He has lost a lot of blood."

More to come.
