Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-hansgrohe) and Steven Kruijswijk have abandoned the Criterium du Dauphine after suffering a heavy crash.

The German and the Dutchman were doing the descent of the Col de Plan Bois when they both suffered a crash. Kruijswijk has been one of the biggest supports of the race leader Primoz Roglic during the competition and Buchmann was at the moment of his withdrawal in the third position of the general classification of the race.

One of the teammates of the German rider, Gregor Mühlberger was also victim of the crash and also had to retire from the race. Jumbo-Visma confirmed that Kruisjwijk suffered a hit on the shoulder but nothing further has been mentioned at the moment.

Earlier on the day, Ineos' Egan Bernal also withdrew from the race due to back pain.
