Bora-hansgrohe's Lennard Kämna has taken the victory of the fourth stage at the Criterium du Dauphine while Primoz Roglic maintained the lead of the General Classification.

The fourth stage of the French race was 153.5 kilometres long and took the riders between Ugine and Megeve over a mountainous course that included two climbs of the first category, a HC climb and a finish on a second category ascent. The competition day started with the news of the withdrawal of Egan Bernal (Ineos) due to back pain.

A group of eight men -that included Julian Alaphilippe, Michal Kwiatkowski, Kenny Ellisonde, David de la Cruz and Lennard Kämna- formed the escape of the day. Behind them, Steven Krujswijk and Emanuel Buchmann crashed on one of the descents and had to abandon the race, GC leader Primoz Roglic also suffered a small crash, but he could continue racing.

The front group created a gap big enough to fight for the stage win and there were several attacks on the last climb of the day but it was Kämna's the one that succeeded. The German crossed the finish line by himself, while the group of the favourites -including Roglic- arrived three minutes and one second behind him.

The Slovenian managed to keep the lead of the General Classification with one stage to go.
