Deceuninck-Quick-Step has informed that Remco Evenepoel will be soon taken back to his home in Belgium following the crash he suffered in Il Lombardia.

The young Belgian rider suffered a horror crash during Il Lombardia -the second Monument of the season and his debut in this kind of races. At a dangerous descent, his bike hit the wall on a bridge, and he fell over the edge.

Evenepoel was immediately taken to the hospital where he underwent tests that confirmed a fractured pelvis and a right lung contusion. Now the team has confirmed he will be taken back to his home as soon as possible, where he will continue his recovery process.

"We would like to inform you that Remco Evenepoel had a quiet night at the hospital and that the evolution of his condition is good," said the team through a statement. "Due to the nature of the injury, Remco has to be transported by plane to Belgium in a supine position.

"The team is doing everything possible to bring him back home as soon as possible, hopefully in the next twenty-four hours, in the most efficient and safe way."
