Astana's Hugo Houle has been diagnosed with Covid-19 after finishing the Tour de Pologne, Canadian press reports.

The 29-year-old's tests for Covid-19 gave a positive result, but he has not experienced any symptoms of the illness. The rider doesn't understand how he could have contracted it as he has been part of the race bubble, has strictly been wearing a mask when he's not in competition and washes his hands "80 times a day," he commented to Canadian newspaper La Presse.

"It surely happened at the transport or the hotel," he added from his apartment in Monaco, where he is been following a quarantine. "At the buffet, you are not immune to a cook that has it but hasn't shown any symptoms like me. A fork, a knife, that you put later in your mouth. I just don't know."

The rider shared a room during the Tour de Pologne with Ion Izagirre, but the Spaniard has had two negative tests. He was also in contact with Jakob Fuglsang, who won Il Lombardia on the past weekend, but the Dane has also received a negative results in the Covid-19 tests.

"If I wasn't a professional cyclist and didn't have to ride on the weekend, I would have never undergone a test, and I haven't seen or experienced anything," Houle explained. "I would just have continued with my life normally. I'm not tired, I haven't had a fever, no coughing, no pain in my lungs or hips, no loss of appetite."

The rider will continue training in his home in Monaco, and he's awaiting the results of new tests, he will have to receive to negative results to be able to return to competition. When this happens he will compete at the Bretagne Classic Ouest-France and the Tour Poitou-Charentes, after which he will undergo blood tests to confirm the presence of antibodies against the Covid-19.
