Trek-Segafredo's Lizzie Deignan has taken the victory at the GP de Plouay.

The one-day race was 101.1 kilometres long, that were divided in one big lap of 46.5 kilometres and three local laps of 13.7 kilometres each, with a start and finish in Plouay, France. The first part of the race had to be neutralised due to a problem with the roads, but racing resumed for the last 75 kilometres.

There were attacks by riders like Lara Krähemann, Marlen Reusser, Pauliena Rooijakkers but they were all repelled by the pack. A crash managed to break the peloton and while last year's winner Anna van der Breggen was left behind, others like Deignan, Elizabeth Banks, Jip van den Bos, Annemiek van Vleuten and Cecillie Uttrup Ludwig were part of the front group.

At the start of the final lap Deignan and Banks managed to break free and created a gap of 43 seconds with the rest. At the final sprint, the rider of Trek-Segafredo proved to have the better legs, taking the victory of the race.

"Obviously I’m delighted, it’s been a difficult season for everybody so far and we’ve had a lot of bad luck in the first few races," the British rider said. "It’s been clear to me that we’ve had the strong est team in all the races and finally the luck was on our side. We had the numbers and used that advantage early.

"I attacked off the back of some attacks from the other girls, and I was able to get some space and I knew the rest of the team was backing me up behind, so all I had to do was put my head down and try to get to the finish line first, and we did, so I’m really happy, Plouay is a really nice race and I always seem to do well here. The rain came which was an extra bonus for me, finally no more sweating in the heat for me! I’m really, really happy and grateful to the whole team for their effort."
