Tadej Pogacar is looking forward to starting in the Tour de France for the first time in his career, and he will be co-leading UAE Team Emirates.
The young Slovenian talent will be at the start line in Nice with a strong roster of which he and Fabio Aru will be the co-leaders. Although this will be the first time in the race for the 21-year-old, he has shown that he has a current good shape, but not he or his team are putting any pressure on the results.
But undoubtedly, he is considered one of the biggest candidates not only for the White Jersey but also for the overall victory of the race. "If I fight for the White Jersey, I'll fight for Yellow, of course," Pogacar said when asked about attempting to top the Young rider classification. "(Egan) Bernal is also a candidate for the white jersey and (Pavel) Sivakov also. And the fight for the White Jersey will not be so far away from the Yellow Jersey. It's going to be hard for any jersey."
At the beginning of the season, Pogacar was part of the roster of UAE Team Emirates that had to be quarantined after the sudden end of the UAE Tour, where his teammates Fernando Gaviria and Max Richeze tested positive for Covid-19. The rider expects that any health situation now will stay out of the race.
"After the UAE it was very difficult for the team, but we managed to stay positive, and we kept going then with our trainings," said the Slovenian. "Everything is going to be fine but I hope that we won't have stay in quarantine again.
"We take all the precautions, safety measures and I hope everybody in the race is. I hope everything will go as planned, and we will not have any troubles with the virus."
