UAE Team Emirates' Alexander Kristoff has taken the victory of the first stage at the Tour de France and is the first rider to wear the Yellow Jersey in 2020.

The Norwegian rider was the fastest to cross the finish line in Nice after a day in which crashed were a constant from the start. Kristoff was the first rider to arrive to the finish, ahead of Mads Pedersen and Cees Bol, and took the lead of the General Classification, receiving the Yellow Jersey at the end of the stage.

"It's a Yellow Jersey also, I always dreamt about wearing the Yellow Jersey and it is a dream coming true," said the rider at the end of the day. "You can't dream of a better start. I felt really strong in the last kilometres and going to the line I saw that I was going to win so it was an amazing feeling. I'm really proud of what I managed to do. The boys carried me safe during the stage but the last kilometres I was alone, but I could still find a good wheel.

"I was sitting on Sagan (wheel) for a long time and I got a bit boxed and lost it a little bit but I saw Cees Bol starting on the right and I tried to follow him and started quite early. Then I still had legs and I went. At the end I was also strong and it was an amazing moment for me. My run into this Tour has not been great, I had no results to show. I also crashed in the European Championships two days ago, and I was a bit banged up but it didn't affect me today, so I'm very happy."
