AG2R La Mondiale's Benoit Cosnefroy has kept the Polka-Dot jersey after the third stage of the Tour de France.

The Frenchman was part of the breakaway of the day and although Cofidis' Anthony Perez took enough points to top the Mountain Classification, he crashed on a descent and had to withdraw from the race with a broken collarbone. That's why Cosnefroy kept the lead of the classification for another day and will be sporting the Polka-Dot jersey on the fourth stage of the race.

"It was a great day," said Cosnefroy. "I was very keen to defend this polka dot jersey. I went in the breakaway with Anthony Perez who placed ahead of me on the first two climbs, à la pédale. On the third ascent, Anthony had a flat and then had to abandon after crashing on the descent. I am really thinking of him tonight because he really should have taken the polka dot jersey today. It's a strange way to keep the jersey, even if I am still proud to wear it.

"I myself crashed when I was trying to be careful at the back of the peloton so as not to take any risks four kilometres from the finish. My second crash in three days, and falling on the same wounds. But that's how it goes sometimes, that's the way of the Tour."
