Ale BTC Ljubljana is ready to face the Giro Rosa, the most important stage race in the women's calendar.

The race will kick-off on the 11th of September and finish on the 19th and will take the peloton through roads of Central and Southern Italy. The Italian grand tour will start with at team time trial in Grosseto, Tuscany, and the novelty of the race will be the inclusion of a stage with unpaved roads.

The Italian national champion Marta Bastianelli was supposed to be at the start line of the race, but she has just discovered that in the past months she suffered from mononucleosis. Although the disease is no longer active at the moment, she has had difficulties and the medical staff recommended her to not take part on the competition.

"We are sorry for Marta, but at the moment it is the most correct choice," said Ale-BTC Ljubljana. "Without Bastianelli also change our approach, our goals and therefore our race tactics. We will try to take care of the general classification with Mavi Garcia, and we will try to enter every day in some breakaway looking for some stage win. With Marta, we would have had a chance even in the sprint, but without her we will have to create other opportunities.

"We are very happy with what we have been able to do so far (in the season). Only two other teams like Trek and Mitchelton have eight victories, so we can only be satisfied with the work of our girls."

Ale-BTC Ljubljana's roster for the Giro Rosa (September 11-19):

Mavi Garcia
Tatiana Guderzo
Eugenia Bujak
Maaike Boogaard
Anna Trevisi
Urska Zigart
