UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar has finished the 19h stage of the Tour de France in the second overall position ahead of the key time trial of Le Planche des Belles Filles.

The 19th stage of the 2020 edition of the French grand tour was calm and straight forward after the breakaway was formed. UAE Team Emirates protected the Slovenian time trial champion throughout the stage, so he would maintain his place in the General Classification ahead of the final test of the climbing time trial.

"At the beginning it was super fast, they set a very hard pace on the front, it only really eased off today when the last break went," said Pogacar. "For tomorrow's TT I did the recon and if I'm on a good day it's a course that suits me well. It's the same hard effort for everybody so tactics won't come into it too much. If someone told me I'd be in this position before the Tour I would never have believed them.

"Anything is possible, but it would be amazing to win the Tour de France tomorrow. As for the mountain jersey: Tomorrow is a time trial, I have to go full gas from start to finish, as always. It doesn't matter in which order we start tomorrow. It is a time trial, tomorrow everyone will be alone and fight for themselves. It's a secret whether I'll change bikes tomorrow. If I tell you now, everyone will know!"
