Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen has taken the victory of the time trial at the World Championships of Imola, Italy.

The rider of Boels-Dolmans has an impressive palmares that includes a Gold medal in the road race of the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro 2016, five victories in La Fleche Wallone and the title of the world championships of 2018. Van der Breggen had already finished in the second place of the time trial of the Worlds and the win that had been escaping from her arrived during the 2020 championships.

"Finally," said the rider to Dutch broadcaster NOS. "This is very good, I think it is really cool. I agreed with Danny Stam (coach and Boels-Dolmans sports director) that I didn't want to know anything along the way. It was not the ideal course for me, but I just wanted to ride as fast as possible. Then I crossed the line and I heard that I am World Champion. This is super nice."

Van der Breggen's compatriot Ellen van Dijk finished in the third position of the final podium, in the competition in which she wasn't supposed to be part of originally, but she took Annemiek van Vleuten's place. The time trial national champion of Switzerland Marlen Reusser took the second spot of the final podium.
