Filippo Ganna (Italy) has taken the victory of the time trial at the World Championships of Imola 2020<.

The 24-year-old -who is the first Italian to win the World title in the discipline- had already shown his current excellent shape in the fight against the clock by winning the National title las August and by beating the competition at the last stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. The rider of Ineos Grenadiers completed the 31.7-kilometre course in Imola, Italy, in 35 minutes and 54 seconds.

He was 26 seconds faster than the Belgian time trial national champion Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) and he beat by 29 seconds the time of Stefan Küng, who is the current Swiss champion in the discipline.

Great Britain's Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) took the fourth position of the competition by being 37 seconds slower than his teammate and the individual time trial world champion of 2018 and 2019 Rohan Dennis, completed the top five of the day.
