Groupama-FDJ's Arnaud Demare has taken the victory of the fourth stage at the Giro d'Italia in a very close final sprint.

The fourth stage of the Italian grand tour was 140 kilometres long over a route that included a third category climb. The last day in Sicily had the escape of three men: Simon Pellaud, Marco Frapporti and Kamil Gradek, and they got a gap of more than four minutes with the pack.

Pellaud was the last man surviving from the escape, and he was caught with 17 kilometres to go. Teams like Bora-hansgrohe, Cofidis, UAE Team Emirates and Israel Start-Up Nation led the speed of the peloton for the final sprint, which was fast and came down to a photo-finish between Peter Sagan, Arnaud Demare and Davide Ballerini.

The French national champion took the victory of the day, while Sagan took the lead of the Points Classification with his second place. Joao Almeida retained the lead of the General Classification.
