Arkea-Samsic's Nairo Quintana has announced that his season is over after a fracture of his kneecap was confirmed.
The Colombian rider suffered several crashes during the past edition of the Tour de France and that left a fracture in his left kneecap. "My left knee has a fracture in the kneecap, possibly I will have to undergo surgery as soon as possible so next year I can be as strong as possible with the team," said Quintana through a video posted in his social media.
The winner of the 2014 Giro d'Italia and the 2016 Vuelta a España puts like this a finish to a successful season in which he took one stage victory and the final win of the Tour de La Provence, he conquered the second stage and topped the General Classification at the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var and won the Queen stage of Paris-Nice.
"I finish like this my season, which was unforgettable for many of us. But my knee injuries continue and after the crash in the Tour and the crash in Colombia, it has been very difficult to recover," he mentioned
