Israel Start Up Nation's Dan Martin has taken the win of the third stage at the Vuelta a España while Primoz Roglic has maintained the lead of the General Classification.

The third stage of the Spanish race took the peloton between Lodosa and La Laguna Negra-Vinuesa over a 166.1-kilometre route the included a third category climb and a mountain finish over a first category ascent. The first breakaway of the day was formed in the first 20 kilometres of the stage and included riders like Tosh Van der Sande, Niki Terpstra and Willie Smit and it took an advantage of more than four minutes over the pack.

Although the first escapees were caught with just over 60 kilometres to go on the stage, a new group that included Angel Madrazo and Hector Saez attacked ten kilometres later, while behind in the pack Ineos Grenadiers took the lead to control the speed. The second group of escapees was caught with seven kilometres to go at the same time that Chris Froome set a high pace for his leader Richard Carapaz on the last ascent of the day.

There were several attacks in the favourites group during the last stretch of the day's stage by riders like Ivan Sosa, Kevin Elissonde, Clement Champoussin and Sepp Kuss but it was Israel Start Up Nation's Dan Martin who made a decisive move that gave him the victory of the day. Primoz Roglic and Richard Carapaz were second and third to arrive to the finish line.

The Slovenian of Jumbo-Visma mantains his lead in the General Classification with an advantage of five seconds over Martin and of 13 seconds over Carapaz.
