CCC Team's Josef Cerny has taken a solo victory in the shortened 19th stage of the Giro d'Italia. Wilco Kelderman arrived to the finish line with the pack and kept the Pink Jersey for another day.

The 19th stage of the Italian race was shortened to 124 kilometres long with a finish in Asti, after the riders refused to start due to the weather conditions that could put their already weakened immune defences at risk. The stage started with the attack of three riders: Simon Pellaud, Josef Cerny and Victor Campenaerts, who were chased by a group of 11 that included Iljo Keisse, Alex Dowsett and Simon Clark and both group eventually joined in front.

The peloton soon allowed the gap with the breakaway to increase until it was of more than eleven minutes. With a bit more than 22 kilometres to go, Cerny attacked from the breakaway to try to get the first victory of the team CCC in the Giro d'Italia.

The former Czech national champion mantained a good gap with the chasers and crossed the finish line on his own, claiming like this his maiden victory in a grand tour. Campenaerts made a move from the chasers in the last two kilometres and arrived to the finish in the second position while Jacopo Mosca did in it in the third place.
