"It will be the first time a cycling race starts from inside a cathedral," sais general manager of La Vuelta, Javier Guillén at the presentation of the start for 2021. The individual time trial will take off from the Cathedral and the riders will leave it through the main entrance to face an "urban city" set to illustrate the "monumental character of the city., before going past the castle and returning to the church, where the finish line will also be set.
The organisation of the Spanish grand tour wants to continue an "innovative path that Unipublic has defended in the recent years, turning the Spanish Grand Tour into a showcase capable of bringing the excellence of our country to the rest of the world," added Guillén. The year 2021 will also be important as the Jacobean Year and the Burgos Cathedral is one of the landmarks of the known pilmigrage route of the Camino de Santiago.
