Lotto Soudal's Tim Wellens has taken the victory of the Étoile de Bèsseges after finishing in the fourth position of the closing time trial, while Filippo Ganna took the win of the day, his second on this edition of the race.

The last stage of the French race was an Individual Time Trial of 11 kilometres in Alès that featured a route that included a climbing finish. One of the first riders to set a competitive time was Ineos Grenadiers' Ethan Hayter, who stopped the clock at 15 minutes and 21 seconds.

After, Groupama-FDJ's Benjamin Thomas finished the course in 15 minutes and ten seconds, being eleven seconds better than the Briton. But the celebration for the Frenchman lasted shortly as soon after the time trial world champion -and winner of the previous stage of the race- set a time of 15 minutes, which put him in the hot seat, a place that he didn't have to leave the rest of the day.

Wellens started the fight against the clock with a 44-second advantage over Trek-Segafredo's Edward Theuns, and after claiming that the route suited him, he finished with the fourth best time of the day, 29 seconds slower than Ganna, which was enough to give him the overall victory of the race.

Ineos Grenadiers' Michal Kwiatkowski and Bora-hansgrohe's Nils Politt completed the final podium of the race.
