Bora-hansgrohe's Peter Sagan is not going to start his season in the Belgian opening weekend as it was announced at the start of the year.
The former World Champion is recovering from Covid-19 in Gran Canaria, Spain, along with his brother Juraj Sagan and Erik Baska. But even though he has finished his quarantine and the symptoms are over, the rider will still have to undergo examinations to determine that he is 100% recovered.
Sources of Bora-hansgrohe have confirmed to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad that the rider will undergo tests to fully assess the state of his lungs and heart, including a MRI and an echocardiography, before giving him the green light to race again, after which his new calendar will be announced.
For now, the team expects for the riders to be able to travel out of Gran Canaria on the next days. Sagan was expected to start his season in the Omloop Het Niewsblad and Kuurne-Bruxelle-Kuurne for the first time since 2017.
