Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) has taken the victory of the third stage of the UAE Tour and has extended his General Classification lead.

The third stage of the Emirati competition was 166 kilometres long with a summit finish at the known Jebel Hafeet. Tony Gallopin (AG2R Citroën Team) and Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) formed the escape of the day and they were caught with eight kilometres to go, already on the last climb of the day.

UAE Team Emirates set the pace on the first slopes of the Jebel Hafeet and they managed to get rid of a lot of the competition. Soon after, Ineos Grenadiers, took over to try to set a rhythm that would suit the winner of the 2020 edition of the race, Adam Yates.

Jumbo-Visma's Sepp Kuss tried to surprise the other climbers, but soon an attack of Yates reeled him back in and Pogacar took an advantage of it and stayed on the wheel of the Briton. Although Yates tried to attack several times, the winner of the 2020 Tour de France always responded and he showed to be the strongest at the final sprint.

The Slovenian now has a lead of 43 seconds over the rider of Ineos-Grenadiers while Deceuinck-Quick-Step's Joao Almeida is one minute and three seconds behind him. Sergio Higuita (EF Education-Nippo) finished in the third position of the stage and climbed to the 12th GC position.

The fourth stage of the UAE Tour will favour the fast riders again and the fifth day of competition will finish on the climb of the Jebel Jais.
