SD Worx' Anna van der Breggen has taken the victory of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad after a solo effort.

The Belgian race was 124.4 kilometres long and took the peloton between Ghent and Ninove, over a route that featured cobblestones stretches and the famous climbs of the Muur-Kapelmuur and the Bosberg.

The race started with the escape of Kylie Waterreus, Claudia Longerius and Elizabeth Bennett but they were eventually caught by a reduced pack led by SD Worx and that set a pace that left behind important riders like Annemiek van Vleuten, Lizzie Deignan and Ellen van Dijk.

Soon after Demi Vollering made her move and managed to create a gap with the rest, and kilometres later she was caught by Elisa Longo Borghini -who soon left her struggling behind- and then Jolie D'Hoore and Van der Breggen took control of the peloton and caught the rider, making it all compact ahead of the Bosberg.

The last climb of the day was the moment in which the World Champion decided to make her move and soon she created a gap big enough with the rest of the competitors and that allowed her to cross the finish line on her own, 23 seconds ahead of Emma Cecilie Norsgaard (Movistar team) and her teammate Amy Pieters.
