Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) has taken the victory of the Trofeo Laigueglia after a late attack.

The Italian race was 202 kilometres long over a route in the north of the country that featured several climbs, including a series of ascents on the last 40 kilometres. There was an early breakaway in the race that included riders like Nicolas Edet, Juri Hollmann and Nikita Stalnov, among others.

Behind them, teams like Trek-Segafredo and AG2R Citroën pulled the pack to get closer to the front. With around 40 kilometres to go Bahrain-Victorious' Mikel Landa launched an attack and was followed by Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) and Nairo Quintana (Arkea-Samsic), while the front group got smaller with the climbs.

A group of chasers was formed as the pack also broke with the ascents and it included Bauke Mollema, Vincenzo Nibali, Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo), Bernal, Quintana, Mauri Vansevenant, James Knox (Deceuninck-Quick-Step), and Clement Champoussin (AG2R Citroën), among others, and they caught the remaining members of the breakaway at around 25 kilometres from the finish.

There were several attacks in the next kilometres that also left riders like Quintana and Nibali behind, but the decisive one arrived with 16 kilometres to go, when Mollema made his move and couldn't be followed by the rest. The Dutchman crossed the finish line by himself, while Bernal won the sprint of the chasers. Vansevenant completed the final podium of the race.
