Team DSM's Cees Bol has taken the victory of the second stage in Paris-Roubaix after a stage that was affected by several crashes.

The 188-kilometre second stage of the French race took the riders between Oinville-Sur-Montcient and Amilly and was set to be another day for the fast riders. Sander Armee (Qhubeka-Assos) and Dries de Bondt (Alpecin-Fenix) escaped early on the day and built a gap of more than four minutes with the pack.

But this adventure was over with around 80 kilometres to go and although the peloton split into pieces for a moment due to the wind that formed echelons, everything got together eventually. There was a day that also suffered crashes and George Bennett (Jumbo-Visma), Daniel Arroyave (EF Education-Nippo) and Alexander Vuillermoz (Total Direct Energie) but only the latter had to retire due to the injuries.

Teams like Bora-hansgrohe, Ineos-Grenadiers, Team DSM and Deceuninck-Quick-Step took the lead of the pack in the last stretch ahead of the bunch sprint. Although there was a crash that broke the peloton, the win came down to a reduced sprint in which DSM's Cees Bol took the victory.

Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and Michael Matthews (Team BikeExchange) completed the top three of the day. The Australian rider took the lead of the General Classification.
