Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) has taken the victory of the second stage of Tirreno-Adriatico, Wout van Aert has kept the overall lead.
The second stage of the Italian race was 202 kilometres long over a route that joined Camaiore and Chiusdino and featured several climbs and a mountain finish. The breakaway of the day was formed by names like Simon Pellaud, Marcus Burghardt and John Archibald, among others, and they were reeled back in with 34 kilometres to go.
Soon after, a new breakaway was formed by strong men like Egan Bernal, Pavel Sivakov (Ineos Grenadiers), Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) and Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious), among others. But the last climb of the day took a toll in this group and the riders were slowly caught by the reduced pack, being the last one Almeida.
Alaphilippe was the strongest man in the group and crossed the finish line ahead of Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Tadej Pogacar and Alex Aranburu. The Belgian rider of Jumbo-Visma has kept the lead of the General Classification.
