Team Bahrain Victorious

Bahrain Victorious' Gino Mäder has taken the second place in the seventh stage of Paris-Nice after being overtaken by Primoz Roglic on the last metres.

The Swiss rider was part of the breakaway of the day in the French competition. He managed to stay in front despite the challenging course and eventually left Neilson Powless and Kenny Elissonde struggling behind while he continued at a good pace to the finish line.

Mäder was very close to the stage win, but just moments before the finish line he saw GC leader Primoz Roglic sprinting to it after an earlier attack and he was left with the second position of the day.

"Today was an absolutely awesome day for the team with Jack Haig moving up to 9th in the GC," explained Mäder. "We had Dylan (Teuns) and me in the breakaway, and from the beginning I felt quite well and I hoped to get relatively fresh to the final.

"As soon as we hit the final slopes, it was just a 40-minute all-out effort, and unfortunately, Rogli? caught me in the final and delegated me to second place but I’m still super happy with my performance today and proud to have done such a good job with all the team."
