Lotto-Soudal's Caleb Ewan has taken the victory of the seventh stage at the Giro d'Italia, Attila Valter keeps the overall lead.

The seventh stage of the Corsa Rosa was another ideal day for the fast riders to try to get a victory. The 181-kilometre course took the pack between Notaresco and Termoli and featured a profile that included a fourth-category climb in the first stretch and was mostly flat in the last sector.

As it is already becoming usual in this edition of the race, Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec's Simon Pellaud was part of the escape group and he was joined by Mark Christian (Eolo-Kometa) and Umberto Marengo (Bardiani-CSF-Faizane). With 17 kilometres to go, the trio was caught and right away teams like Lotto-Soudal, Ineos-Grenadiers, Bora-hansgrohe, Jumbo-Visma and Alpecin-Fenix, among others, took the front part of the pack to try to guarantee a good spot for their sprinters.

Fernando Gaviria was the first rider to launch a strong sprint and although he created a gap with the rest, he was soon caught and overtaken by a strong Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal). Davide Cimolai (Osrael Start-Up Nation) and Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) completed the top three of the day.

Attila Valter (Groupama-FDJ) crossed the finish line with the pack and maintains the lead of the General Classification.
