Andrea Vendrame (AG2R Citroën) has taken the win in the 12th stage of the Giro d'Italia while Egan Bernal keeps the lead of the General Classification.

The route of the day was 212 kilometres long between Siena and Bagno di Romagna and featured a rolling profile with two climbs of the second category and two of the third. The escape of the day was formed after 60 kilometres of racing and included riders like Geoffrey Bouchard, Andrea Vendrame, Dries De Bondt, and Mikkel Honore, among others.

The front group managed to create a gap of more than 12 minutes with the peloton and with 17 kilometres to go, Vendrame launched an attack that nobody could match. Behind him, riders like George Bennett, Chris Hamilton and Gianluca Brambilla were chasing him.

The chasers managed to get to the Italian and there were attempts of new attacks in the quartet but none significant. Meanwhile, Giulio Ciccone and Vincenzo Nibali made a move from the pack and created a gap.

In the last kilometres only Vendrame and Hamilton remained in front, and the Italian launched a long sprint that gave him the victory of the day, while Nibali crossed the finish line seven seconds ahead of the pack that included the leader of the General Classification Egan Bernal.
