Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) has taken the victory of the Belgium Tour while his teammate Mark Cavendish took the win of the last stage.

The young Belgian took the victory of the General Classification from the first stage of his home race and maintained it until the very end, including an outstanding performance in the individual time trial that managed to extend his lead. His teammate Cavendish sprinted to the stage victory on the last day of the competition.

"It's a big relief," said Evenepoel. "After a long injury and a long way back it's very special to win again, to know that you're back where you were before. It's a confirmation of the fact that we worked hard to return to this level and of the support I got from the team, which is something I am very grateful for.

"Winning the Belgium Tour again and especially that ITT is also a mental boost ahead of the National Championships and shows it was a good decision to do this race, as it showed the progress I have made."
