Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) has suffered a broken collarbone on the last kilometre crash in the Tour de France stage 3.

The Australian started the stage as one of the favourites for the sprint stages, being the third, the first one of them all. And as he was fighting for his first victory on this edition of the race, he crashed, took Peter Sagan to the floor with him and had to be taken away by ambulance.

Lotto Soudal has confirmed that the rider has suffered a broken collarbone and won't be at the start of the fourth stage in the French grand tour. "He was in pain, he couldn't sit up and they weren't allowed to touch him," said Thomas De Gendt at the end of the stage to Belgian broadcaster Sporza, and before the diagnosis was confirmed.

"Obviously that's a shame. We spent the whole day in front and fought for it. But it was hectic and then bad luck comes into play."
