Bahrain-Victorious' Jack Haig has been victim of a crash in the last kilometres of the Tour de France stage 3 that left him out of the race.

The Australian was in the fourth position of the General Classification at the start of the third stage, 26 seconds behind the wearer of the Yellow Jersey Mathieu van der Poel. But he won't be able to keep fighting for a good overall position, as he suffered a heavy crash with five kilometres to go.

The final stretch of the third day of competition in the French grand tour was very accidented, and Haig hit the deck with five kilometres to go. He was taken by ambulance to the Hospital Centre Bretagne.

"Jack suffered a fractured left collarbone and concussion following the crash," said Bahrain-Victorious' doctor Piotr Kosielski. "He is conscious and okay, and scans showed no head trauma. He will remain in hospital overnight for observation following the team and UCI protocols."
