Tour de France

Bahrain-Victorious' Matej Mohoric has taken the victory of the 7th stage in the Tour de France, Mathieu van der Poel has kept Yellow.

The seventh stage of the race was not only the longest one in this edition of the French grand tour but also in 21 years, with a route that was 249.1 kilometres long that featured a rolling profile on the second half. Just after the real start, many attacks started happening until a group of around 29 riders managed to break free.

Riders like the wearer of the Yellow Jersey Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Dylan van Baarle, Michael Schär, Matej Mohoric and Victor Campenaerts were part of this group. With around 90 kilometres to go, Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Victorious) and Brent Van Moer (Lotto Soudal) made a move and were later joined by Jasper Stuyven (Trek-Segafredo).

This trio got a gap of more than a minute with the Yellow Jersey group and more than six with the peloton. On the climb of Signal d'Uchon -which got bonus seconds for the first three riders to cross it- Mohoric left his companions behind

On that same climb, Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) seemed to be suffering and was left behind by the peloton, while Ineos Grenadiers wanted to take advantage and took the lead of the pack. Soon after, Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) launched an attack and went away from the rest of the GC riders.

Meanwhile, Van der Poel and Van Aert left the rest of the former escapees behind and went on by themselves. Mohoric crossed the finish line by himself, taking his first stage win in the race, after he had already done it in the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España.

Van Aert and Van der Poel arrived at one minute and 40 seconds from the winner of the stage, and Carapaz was caught on the last metres of the stage and more than five minutes after Mohoric.

The stage finished with Van Aert climbing to the second GC position, 30 seconds behind Van der Poel, Kasper Asgreen climbed eight spots to the third place where he sits one minute and 49 seconds behind the Yellow Jersey, Mohoric is foruth at three minutes and one seconds, and Tadej Pogacar closes the top five, at three minutes and 43 seconds.

Roglic is now nine minutes and 11 seconds from the leader of the overall standings, dropped to the 33 position and his chances for the win are dimmed.
