Neilson Powless (EF Education First) has taken the victory of the Clasica San Sebastian, beating Matej Mohoric and Mikkel Honore.

The 223.5-kilometre race in the north of Spain happened on a rainy day. A group of 16 riders managed to escape from the pack, including names like Jose Joaquín Rojas, Mikaël Cherel and James Knox, and they got an advantage of around four minutes over it.

On the last part of the route, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, Trek-Segafredo and Jumbo-Visma took control of the pace in the peloton and reduced the gap quickly. On the second to last climb of the day, the escapees were caught, and Javier Romo attacked, but was reeled back in with 45 kilometres to go.

On the penultimate ascent, the Erlaitz, Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) launched an attack and was followed by a group formed by Simon Carr, Neilson Powless, Matej Mohoric, Mikkel Honore and Lorenzo Rota -who left the Spaniard behind soon after. On the last descent of the day, Honore and Rota crashed, but returned to the road quickly.

The four men, faced the final sprint, which was launched first my Mohoric, but the American of Education First-Nippo overtook him and took the victory. Honore completed the podium of the day.

"I'm just so happy to have taken it in San Sebastian with a director in the car (Juanma Garate) who's a local and every time I've raced in the Basque Country it's just been incredible with the fans so I'm super happy to win in front of such enthusiastic crowds," said Powless at the end of the race.
