UAE Team Emirates' Sebastian Molano has taken his second stage victory in the 2021 edition of the Vuelta a Burgos, Romain Bardet remains in the lead of the General Classification.

The fourth stage of the race in the north of Spain was 149 kilometres long and took the peloton between Roa and Aranda de Duero over a rolling parcours that finish in a bunch sprint. The breakaway of the day was formed by riders like Diego Rubio, Mario Aparicio and Diego Sevilla, and created a gap of more than three minutes with the pack.

UAE Team Emirates' was the main team that took control of the speed of the pack to force a final sprint, which was successful as the last riders of the breakaway were caught just after the seven kilometre mark. Once again, Matteo Trentin did an outstanding job for Molano, who finished it up by taking the stage victory once again.

Jon Aberasturi (Caja Rural) and Vincenzo Albanese (Eolo-Kometa) completed the top three of the day, and Trentin was fourth. "Myself and Matteo were both up front for the final, so we knew we would have cards to play," said the Colombian. "Aberasturi got a good jump and I instinctively reacted and just came through for the win.

"The team worked all day on the front and showed a lot of faith in me to deliver the sprint. There was a lot of stress in the early stages with the wind, but we controlled it well, and it all came back together. We have David [de la Cruz] up on the GC now too, so our focus will be for him tomorrow."

The winner of the previous stage of the competition, Romain Bardet (Team DSM) keeps leading the overall standings.
