Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) has taken the victory of the first stage in the Tour de Pologne.
The opening stage of the Polish race was 216.4 kilometres long between Lublin and Chelm, and took the peloton over a rolling course. The breakaway of the day was formed by Yevgeniy Fedorov, Michal Paluta and Sean Bennet, and took an advantage of more than three minutes.
Teams like Deceuninck-Quick-Step and Bahrain-Victorious took control of the pace in the peloton to force a bunch sprint. The escape group was caught with more than 40 kilometres to go, and soon after Jos van Emden, Antoine Duchesne and Tom Scully created a gap, but they were reeled back in with 15 kilometres to go.
Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Alvaro Hodeg made a strong move to try to take the victory, but soon he was caught by the rest. Bauhaus was the first rider to cross the finish line, while Hodge was second and Hugo Hofstetter arrived to the finish in the third position, taking like this the lead of the General Classification.
