Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma) has been the fastest man in the final sprint of the Tour of Demnark's opening stage.

The first stage of the Danish race took the riders through a 175-kilometre route along the west coast of the country in which the biggest challenge was the wind. A group of five escaped, but teams like Jumbo-Visma made sure to control the gap and reeled them back in with 15 kilometres to go.

The Dutch team formed a train on the last laps of the final circuit, and after the efforts of Edoardo Affini, Timo Roosen and Mike Teunissen, Groenewegen did his part and crossed the finish line ahead of Mark Cavendish and Giacomo Nizzolo, taking like this his third victory of the season. The rider from Amsterdam also took the lead of the General Classification.

"This victory is one to be proud of", said Groenewegen. "We were in control of the race all day. We knew the last local laps would be very hectic. Luckily we kept the overview in the narrow streets and in the end it turned out that we had a lot of power as a team.

"My teammates delivered me in ideal position. When I started, I immediately felt it was right. We will toast this victory as a team and then look forward to the upcoming stages."
