Bora-hansgrohe has had an unlucky second stage of the Vuelta a España as three riders hit the deck: Max Schachmann, Jordi Meeus and Patrick Gamper.

The German team had its eye on the fast finale of the second stage at the Spanish race after Jordi Meeus finished twice in the top-five in bunch sprints at the Vuelta a Burgos. But luck wasn't on its side as three riders crashed with five kilometres to go: Max Schachmann, Jordi Meeus and Patrick Gamper.

Schachmann was the first one to stand up and continue, while the other two remained on the ground to receive medical assistance. Meeus didn't suffer serious injures, while Gamper sustained a deep cut in his finger and had to be taken to the hospital after he crossed the finish line.

"That was quite some bad luck," said Meeus. "We were fully motivated for the sprint in Burgos, but with about 4.5 km to go some riders went down in front of me, and I wasn't able to avoid the crash. I feel OK at the moment, but honestly I'm relieved that the crash at least wasn't worse."
