Tour of Britain
Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) has climbed back to the top of the General Classification at the Tour of Britain after winning the fourth stage.
The route of the day was 210 kilometres long between Abaeranon and Great Orme, Llandudno, and took the riders over a tough course that features one climb of the first category, two of the second and a steep finale. After a difficult day, the pack caught the last of the front men with ten kilometres to go.
During the final part of the last climb, a group of five took the lead: Van Aert, Julian Alaphilippe, Michael Woods, Mikkel Honore and the leader of the General Classification Ethan Hayter. There were several changes of pace in this group that managed to first drop the Briton of Ineos-Grenadiers.
On the last metres, the World Champion was the first to launch the final sprint and the only one that could follow his wheel was the Belgian of Jumbo-Visma. On the tough finale, Van Aert managed to take the win by barely one wheel of difference over the Frenchman, taking like this his second victory in the 2021 Tour of Britain and seizing back the lead of the General Classification.
