The Giro di Sicilia Eolo is set to return in 2021 from September 28 to October 1, over four stages around the Italian island.

In 2019, the Italian race made its return after 42 years of absence, and Brandon McNulty, Guillaume Martin and Fausto Masnada stepped on the final podium. But the pandemic of 2020 stopped the competition from happening again, and that will change this year with a stellar start list.

The race -which is one of the oldest of the Italian ones- will take place from the 28th of September to the first of October and will start in Avola, at the south of the Island, and close with a stage that will have the finish line on the Sciara di Scorciavacca climb -a slope of the Etna.

Twenty teams of seven riders each will face the Giro di Sicilia and riders like Vincenzo Nibali, Chris Froome and Alejandro Valverde have already confirmed their participation. Five WorldTeams, eight ProTeams and seven Continental teams will be at the start line in Avola.

"This Giro di Sicilia has a very special and in our opinion perfect location in the international calendar," said Paolo Bellino, Managing Director and General Manager of RCS Sport. "Thanks to the teamwork with the Regione Siciliana, we are bringing back this race to its ancient splendour. This year, champions of the calibre of Vincenzo Nibali, Chris Froome and Alejandro Valverde, with their own unique palmares, will take their places at the start of the race.

"Sicily is an extraordinary place and, like its people, it’s rich in its traditions, history and culture. Sicily is the ideal place, in all seasons, for cycling. Images of this great place will be broadcast across 5 continents courtesy of Rai, generating touristic and economic development for the region."
