Young Slovakian rider Martin Svrcek is set to join Deceuninck-Quick-Step in 2022.

The 18-year-old is the current junior champion of his home country in both disciplines and has taken up to 15 victories in the current season as member of the Team Franco Ballerini, including one stage and the overall win of the Tour de Leman, the fifth stage of the Tour de la Region Paca and a string of Italian one-day races.

This mix of skills for stage races, one-day competitions and time trials, caught the attention of Deceuninck-Quick-Step, that signed him for two and a half years, starting in June 2022. Until then, the Slovakian will ride for Biesse Carrera Continental in the U23 category, where he will enjoy of a good environment and continue his learning process.

"I'm extremely happy, because Deceuninck-Quick-Step is the best team in the world," said Svrcek. "I wasn't expecting something like this, so it's really awesome. My dream was to get to the World Tour, but I couldn't have imagined signing for this team. I love everything about this squad: the atmosphere, the winning spirit, the history, the jersey that always stands out from the peloton.

"What are my goals? I want to give my all for the team, to improve, to gain experience, and then we'll just see how it goes. But before that, I will compete in a series of U23 races with my Italian team to get used to long races and everything that this means."

Deceuninck-Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere welcomed the signing of this young talent. "We are proud that Martin will join us next year, and we are confident he will show his huge potential in our squad," he commented.

"We have been following him for quite a while, he's only 18 years old, but he has already shown some great results. We want to help Martin improve and get more experience in the pro peloton. We are excited that Martin will be a member of the Wolfpack, and we can't wait to have him with us at the races."
