The last Monument of the season, Il Lombardia, is approaching, and its start list is full of top riders.

The also known as the race of the falling leaves, will take place between Como and Bergamo for the first time since 2016, over a route that features six climbs and 4500 metres of total elevation gain, which will favour climbers and puncheurs that can survive the steeper parts.

Many top riders will try their luck on the last chance of the season. Julian Alaphilippe, Tadej Poga?ar, Primož Rogli?, Chris Froome, Vincenzo Nibali, Aleksandr Vlasov, Thibaut Pinot, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Adam Yates, Romain Bardet, Simon Yates, Nairo Quintana and Alejandro Valverde, are some of the riders that will be at the start line in Como.

The last kilometres of the race, after the heavier climbs of Il Lombardia, will head through Bergamo's upper town, going up to Porta Garibaldi and then to Largo Aperto (crossing 200 m of cobblestone terrain). "Downhill, the road is a wide, smooth surface. At 1800 m from the finish, there is a sharp turn with a short bottleneck to overcome the Porta Sant’Agostino," explains a statement from the organization.

"After the last kilometre, a wide curve to the left awaits the riders before they join the straight, leading to the finish. The final straight is 800 m long and 7.5 m wide on an asphalt surface, downhill in the first part and then flat."
