AG2R La Mondiale's Axel Domont has suffered a fracture in his hip joint after he crashed at the Race Torquay.

The Frenchman was a victim of a crash during the Australian one-day race and that resulted in a non-displaced fracture of the socket portion of the right hip joint. His team has confirmed that the rider will be flown back to France in the coming days and that he will be out of racing for several weeks, although it is unknown for how long he will be sidelined.

It is uncertain how this crash will affect the season of the rider, who has as a main objective of his calendar to help his teammate Romain Bardet at the Giro d'Italia.

Last season, Domont suffered a crash in the Volta a Catalunya that caused him fractures in the pelvis and the collarbone. These injuries kept him out of competition for five months, and he rode then races like the OVO Energy Tour of Britain, Paris-Chauny, the Giro dell'Emilia and Il Lombardia.
