Two more teams have decided to withdraw from the upcoming races as a precaution due to the coronavirus.

After teams like Jumbo-Visma and Mitchelton-Scott decided to withdraw from the upcoming races as result of the coronavirus that is currently widespread in the north of Italy, more formations join the list.

Astana will stop racing until March 20, which includes the following races: Strade Bianche, Paris-Nice, and Tirreno-Adriatico.

"With this measurement, we have chosen to protect the health of our riders and staff and to take our responsibility for the society in not further spreading the virus," said Astana's General Manager Alexandr Vinokurov.

"Of course, we would have preferred to participate in all upcoming races, but for now, it's safety first. We still have a long season ahead with many other important races. It was not an easy decision, but we have to protect the cycling family as well as our own families at home."

French team AG2R La Mondiale has decided for now to withdraw only from the Italian competitions: Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico and Milano-Sanremo due to the health concerns derived from the Covid-19. "We are closely monitoring the coronavirus crisis, in close collaboration with Dr Eric Bouvat, the team's head doctor, and we are attentive to the decisions being made by the health authorities," said the team's general manager Vincent Lavenu.

"As the team manager, I cannot risk the health and integrity of our staff when the health situation is so unstable in Italy, and many legitimate questions have been raised within the team. Sporting interests should not overshadow prudence and wisdom when it comes to public health. We are very sorry for the organizers of these legendary races and we have informed them this morning of our decision."
