David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) has taken the victory of the last stage at Itzulia Basque Country while Primoz Roglic won the race.

The last stage of the Spanish competition was 111.9 kilometres long and with one climb of the second category, three of the third and two of the first category, including the ascent of Usartza close to the finish line. The peloton broke very close to the first climb of the day and riders like Carlos Verona, Jan Polanc, Jakob Fuglsang and Antwan Toelhoek escaped early on the day.

Attacks were happening here and there and Roglic was in the second group while Tadej Pogacar and his teammate Brandon McNulty -leader of the General Classification- were in a third group. Soon enough McNulty couldn't hold the rhythm of that group and Pogacar then looked for the support of other GC riders like Mikel Landa and Alejandro Valverde, but they couldn't get to the front.

Meanwhile, the escapees were caught and Roglic and Gaudu remained together in front working to keep away the chasing group. The Frenchman was the first rider to cross the finish line, ahead of Roglic, and the group did it 35 seconds later, which meant that the Slovenian rider took the overall lead on the last moment.

The teammate of Roglic, Jonas Vingegaard took the second position of the final podium while Pogacar stepped on the third one. Adam Yates and Gaudu completed the top five of the Spanish race.
