Stefan Küng (Groupama-FDJ) has taken the victory of the fourth stage at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and climbed to the top of the GC lead.

The fourth stage of the Spanish race was a 14.3-kilometre Individual Time Trial between Xilxes and Playa Almenara. One of the first riders to set a good time was Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ), who stopped the clock in 17 minutes and 16 seconds. Another rider to set a good time was the wearer of the Yellow Jersey in the first stages, Miles Scotson (Groupama-FDJ) by completing the circuit in 16 minutes and 53 seconds.

But the Swiss time trial national champion started well and already in the 8th kilometre had an advantage of 23 seconds over the second on that intermediate point. The rider stopped the clock in 16 minutes and 12 seconds. The then GC leader Enric Mas crossed the first intermediate point 19 seconds behind Küng, and he started the stage with an advantage of 51 seconds with the Swiss.

An although the Spaniard was on his way to take the victory of the race, he suffered a puncture on the last kilometre that gave Küng the lead of the General Classification. The Swiss rider is the virtual winner of the race, with one stage to go, the Valencia city circuit.
