Covid-19 has taken UAE Team Emirates and Team Uno-X from the Fleche Wallonne and the Tour of the Alps.

Early on the day it was known that both teams had to withdraw their respective formations from the respective races. Despite the entire team and staff was vaccinated in the UAE, the Emirati team had to withdraw from the Belgian race due to two positive tests.

Diego Ulissi and a staff member tested positive in the examinations done in Belgium before the race, despite having two negative ones before travelling. "Since the original 'positive' test, both members have undergone 3 separate tests each: 2 antigen and 1 molecular," said a statement from UAE Team Emirates. "All the results from these subsequent tests returned negative results and neither displays any symptoms.

"Though the team is frustrated by the ruling, we fully accept the final decision of the Belgian authorities. The team will withdraw from the race and undergo further testing with the aim to start Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday."

The Tour of the Alps organisation also confirmed that the Norwegian team had decided to withdraw from the race after it was notified by one Covid positive results of tests done on Wednesday, April 21, of a team member that had flu-like symptoms. "The person immediately went into isolation, and those who came into contact with them are self-isolating, in compliance with the Tour of the Alps' Covid protocol," explained the organisation of the race through a statement. "All team members are undertaking further tests while remaining in isolation.

"In wishing a speedy recovery to the interested person, the Tour of the Alps organization wishes to thank the Uno-X Team for the sense of responsibility and professionalism demonstrated in this situation."
