Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) has taken the victory of the first road stage in the Tour de Romandie while Rohan Dennis (Ineos Grenadiers) has kept the lead of the General Classification.

The first stage of the Swiss race was 168.1 kilometres long that was expected to finish in a sprint. The escape of the day formed a gap that reached more than six minutes and with 50 kilometres to go, there were several attacks while teams like Bora-hansgrohe took the lead of the pack to catch them.

The peloton got back together on the last lap and although there were several attacks that broke it at times, the final still was as expected. The former World Champion launched his sprint perfectly and crossed the finish line ahead of Sonny Colbrelli and Patrick Bevin. Rohan Dennis (Ineos-Grenadiers) maintained the lead of the General Classification.

"I'm really happy to win again in the Tour de Romandie," said Sagan. "In 2010 I had taken the first road stage and here I am eleven years later with another victory. I have to thank my teammates for their great job today, in the last two laps they were pulling in the front and after the last climb, they held the bunch together.

"It feels nice after three weeks without any racing to come here and win, probably the only stage suited to me because the following ones will be very hard. Thanks as well to the whole team and its sponsors for their continuous support."
