Astana-Premier Tech's Alexey Lutsenko has taken the victory of the individual time trial of the Criterium du Dauphine while Lukas Pöstlberger maintained the General Classification lead.

The fourth stage of the French race was a fight against the clock between Firminy and Roche-la-Molière over a 16.4-kilometre route that included slight climbs. One of the first best times was set by the former world champion of the discipline Tony Martin (Jumbo-Visma), who stopped the clock in 22 minutes and 35 seconds.

The next riders to be on the hot seat for a moment included Harry Sweeny (Lotto Soudal), Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) and Richie Porte (Ineos Grenadiers). Astana-Premier Tech's Ion Izagirre finished soon after and stopped the clock in 21 minutes and 44 seconds, but he was soon moved from the first position by his teammate Lutsenko, who was eight seconds faster.

The last rider to go down the ramp was the wearer of the Yellow Jersey Pöstlberger, who set the ninth-best time, 22 seconds behind Lutsenko, and which was good enough for him to keep the overall lead for another day.
