Bora-hansgrohe's Patrick Konrad has taken the victory of the 16th stage in the Tour de France.

The first stage of the closing week of competition was another day in the mountains from Pas de la Case and Saint-Gaudens, over a 169-kilometre route that featured two climbs of the second category and one of the first category. On the first part of the stage there was a escape that included names like Michal Kwiatkowski, Mattia Cattaneo and Kasper Asgreen but it was reeled back in with 65 kilometres to go.

Soon after there were many attempts of attacks until Christopher Juul Jensen, Fabien Doubey and Jan Bakelants took the lead and were followed by riders like Michael Matthews, Patrick Konrad, Sonny Colbrelli, Toms Skujins and Alex Aranburu. Some of the bridged to the front and on the last climb of the day -while the peloton was already more than 13 minutes behind- Konrad launched an attack that was enough for him to form a good gap that allowed him to cross the finish line on his own.

Colbrelli and Matthews completed the top five of the day. The leader of the General Classification Tadej Pogacar arrived to the finish line with the favourites' group and keeps the Yellow jersey.
